ALVEAR AVENUE

The most luxurious and aristocratic avenue in the City of Buenos Aires

  • Av. Alvear 1300 a 2200

Between Cerrito and Alvear Square is the most luxurious and aristocratic avenue in the City of Buenos Aires. Alvear Avenue is a place that is worth visiting, paying close attention. Not only do you have to see the elegant buildings and palaces that make it so charming, but also the luxury and high fashion businesses that can be found among its sidewalks: international designers, art galleries, jewelry stores... An ideal eight-block tour to do on a sunny afternoon. Some of the attractions of Alvear Avenue are:

  • The Apostolic Nunciature of Buenos Aires. It is located in an old parisian-style chateau that also has a beautiful garden: the former Fernández de Anchorena Palace, which dates back to 1907.
  • The Maguire Residence. One of the few aristocratic palaces of the late nineteenth century of the avenue that is still preserved as such. In 2002 the building was declared a National Historic Monument and, although its facade and its front patio can be seen, it cannot be visited as it continues to be the private residence of the descendants of the Duhau-Maguire family.
  • The embassies of France and Brazil, at the beginning of Alvear Avenue, at the height of Cerrito. More information about the tour of the Recoleta embassies

Not to miss: The Alvear Palace Hotel is a must see. Just enter the lobby and see the display of luxury and glamor is to stay with the mouth open. If the budget allows it, we recommend going to tea time for a very special snack, or eat something in the exclusive L'Orangerie restaurant during the buffet lunch served every day.

Another iconic hotel on this avenue is the Hyatt, located in the historic Duhau Palace building. It dates from 1930 and at that time it was the luxurious residence of the family that gave it its name. Since 2006, it belongs to the Hyatt chain and operates as a five-star hotel. Whether you stay there or not, you can admire the beautiful architecture of the building and taste its iconic delights in one of its restaurants: Duhau Restaurante & Vinoteca, Gioia Restaurante & Terrazas, Los Salones del Piano Nobile u Oak Bar.
